CRS is an acronym for compulsory registration scheme under Bureau of Indian Standards. Any individual or business manufacturing, selling or importing electronic products identified or listed under SCHEME-2 is required to get BIS CRS registration after getting their product tested at certified BIS test labs.

Documents required for BIS CRS Registration

Following are the list of documents that needed to be enclosed while filling an application for BIS CRS certificate.

  • Nomination Letter of AIR
  • Test Report for the product
  • Undertaking regarding the product
  • ISO Certificate of the manufacturer
  • Product manual of the applied devices
  • Trademark Certificate if available or required
  • Testing documents such as filled CCL and CDF
  • Authorized Indian Representative and Affidavit (In case of Foreign Manufacturer)
  • Trademark Authorisation Letter, in case the brand, is not owned by the manufacturer
  • If the signatory person is other than the head of the manufacturing facility, then submit the Authorisation Letter

Process of BIS CRS Registration

  • Identification of IS number: Applicants are required to find the correct IS number for their products before applying for BIS CRS registration.
  • Testing of sample: Once the IS standard is recognised by the applicant, they are required to send their samples to BIS certified labs for quality testing.
  • Filling of application: After the completion of testing, an application will be filled with BIS along with the test report and other required documents. The authorities will scrutinize and verify the documents before issuing BIS certification.
  • Issuance of certification: Once the verification is completed by the licensing authority. The BIS CRS registration certificate will be issued by the BIS within 20 working days.

 

 

 

 

 


Guidelines for E-marking of products under BIS CRS scheme

Requirements for physical labeling:

  • Devices with e-labels must have a physical label on the product packaging during sale, distribution, import, and storage.
  • Mass-produced items not packed individually can use a removable adhesive label on the packaging.

Compliance regarding information

  • The responsible party must program the compliance-related information.
  • The details must be protected from third-party tampering.
  • The details can be in the software menu if easily accessible and cannot be modified.

Regulatory details

  • All applicable regulatory details required on the product packaging or user manual must be provided.
  • The details must comply with applicable rules, even if shown electronically

Accessibility

  • E-labeled devices must not require any additional tools or supplemental plug-ins to access the e-label.
  • Users must be able to access the details without special access codes or permissions.
  • The details must be accessible within four steps of a device's menu.

User manual and instructions

  • If the primary user manual or user guide is given by electronic media, the information may also be part of the e-label.
  • Instructions to access the information may be on the product website, mentioned in the user's manual or product package.
  • Users must receive clear instructions on how to access the details.

Standard mark
