Renewal of FSSAI License is mandatory criteria for all the food business operators which has to be concluded before the expiry of food license. For FSSAI Basic Registration, renewal has to be done before 30 days from expiry date, whereas in case of State Food License and Central Food License, renewal has to be made before 60 days from the date of expiry of the license. In case a food operator fails to renew an existing license, he would be charged a penalty of Rs. 100 per day upto the date of expiry of license. Also if a food license holder fails to renew the license in due time, cancellation of the license is done on suo moto basis from the FSSAI department. The food license validity of a food license can be from 1 year to 5 years depending on the size of food business.

Documents Required For FSSAI License Renewal

  • Identity Proof like Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Driving License, Voter ID, Passport, Senior Citizen Card

Importance of FSSAI License Renewal

 

Food Business Owners having FSSAI Basic registration or license needs to ensure timely renewal, as an expired license could lead to loosing your existing license number which could hamper the packaging and advertisement cost of the business.

An expired food license is treated the same as not having any food license. If you continue to run a food business with an expired license, you will be liable to the penalties imposed by the FSSAI. We’ll cover the consequences and penalties also in this article.

The FBOs must file an application for renewal of the license before 30 days of the expiry date of the existing license. So, to ensure that you conform to the standards laid down by FSSAI you must renew your license in the specified time.

Procedure of FSSAI License Renewal

 

 

  1. First, you need to file your application in Form A (for renewal of basic registration or Form B (for the renewal of state license or central license) along with the signatures of the authorized signatory. Also, you need to attach a government-issued photo identity proof along with the Form.
  2. Furthermore, the application for FSSAI license renewal must be contained by an audit report, FSMS plan, Certificate or Self-declaration regarding Food Safety Management System has to be filed together. Such a declaration should be provided on the letterhead of the FBO/ firm/ company as per the prescribed format.
  3. Moreover, another requirement of the FSSAI license renewal is filling up of Form No. IX - Form For Nomination Of Persons. It Is The Responsibility Of The company to fill the form in the prescribed format.
  4. Also, A Declaration signed by the Authorized signatory stating that the food business conducted conforms to the Food Safety and Standards Act, Hygiene and Sanitary Practices. Additionally, all FBOs need to comply with the Guidelines provided under Schedule 4 of the Registration and Licensing Regulation issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and to all subsequent rules issued by an authorized person/ authority from time to time. It should be attached with the application for FSSAI license renewal.
  5. After receiving the application for FSSAI license renewal, the authorities would then examine it and if required, arrange an inspection at the business premises to make sure that the details related to the food business furnished are true.
  6. The complete procedure of FSSAI registration or license renewal takes almost 60 days. In case it takes more than 60 days, and in case you have not received any notice from the concerning authority, then you can continue the business without waiting for any further information.

 


 

 

Consequences if FSSAI License not renewed

 

If you fail to renew your FSSAI license before the expiry date, then your license will no longer be considered as valid and therefore, you will be subject to the penalties that may be charged on your business.

You will be penalised ?100 per day. Your food business will not be considered legal by the authorities. Your goodwill and reputation may be hurt among your consumers. Therefore, you must renew your food license before the stipulated time.
